Art, Music & Performance
I’m a professional dancer and multi-disciplinary artist giving voice to personal and shared stories of healing.
As a performer and director, I have produced and directed performances that balance intensity with humor, highly physical dance with spoken word, and social commentary with my own personal story. My work is edgy and provocative with just enough joy to make my messages digestible (and even fun!).
Bad Art
Bad Art flies in the face of capitalism, patriarchy, sexism, and artist oppression. Bad Art is a way of stepping out of trying to look good, to be deemed worthy, or to make things that are polished.
I have used the lens of “bad art“ to give myself permission to make videos that are low stress, little effort, and that aren’t bothered if they’re boring, stupid, annoying, or weird. I use this format to take risks and be willing to make really, really bad content. In giving myself this permission, I’ve found a real outlet for expressions and feelings, and it has been deeply satisfying!
I share these videos to inspire other people to do the same. On some of these videos there are assignments and you could try them yourself!
You don’t have to know why you’re making it, you just have to try stuff.
One-Woman Shows
These performances are my pathways to coping with the odd experience of life. I produce art that makes me (and hopefully you!) belly laugh, ask the big questions, and invite raw aliveness.
A fiery one woman show with special guests and (delightfully optional) audience participation. Rythea Lee presents her humorous show about the joyful practices required to deal with the undeniable reality of death. For her, it’s all about unabashed creativity, fearless self-expression, loving others passionately despite loss, and laughing at the absurdity of our humanity.
Rythea shares monologues, choreography, poetry, and original songs, to create entertainment and artistic reflection.
Impermanence Is Exhausting
Don’t Be a Dick
Having the right insight at the right time can change a person’s life. Join performance artist Rythea Lee as she skillfully rides your mind and heart into the unexpected epiphanies of her psyche. This is a Memoir Musical, where song, story, and dance ask life’s defining questions. Who are you and are you acting like a dick? And…are you sure you’re not acting like a dick? This show touches issues of falling in love, having a child, and healing from childhood trauma.
